Brennan really enjoyed his second Christmas at home. Everytime we talked about Santa leading up to Christmas, he would go over and point at the stockings. He was very excited to open his presents from Santa. He loved the candy and was very proud of all his presents.

On Christmas Eve's Eve, we had dinner at our house for the sixth year. I thought I would post real quick to let you all know about the conversation I just had with Brennan. He came up and told me he needed to potty. Then I put him on the toilet (he still sits) and walked out; he likes it better when I leave. When I came back in, he was sitting there reaching down into the toilet in between his legs. I had to tell him that we have to leave the poop in the toilet. He just looked at me, smiled, and was ready to get down. Fortunately, he had not accomplished his goal of grabbing the poop. :)

We spent December 20-22 in Shawnee to celebrate our Douglas Family Christmas. Brennan had a great time with Gran, Grandad, Uncle Kyle, Aunt Lindsay, and Judah. Brennan has now slept in his big boy bed for a full week. (It is a full-size bed instead of a crib). He has done wonderfully with it. He lays right down and stays in his bed until one of us comes to get him. We are very proud of our big boy! We will post pictures from Christmas soon.

Cheese's was for older kids before going. Mommy went along with Aunt Jessica's suggestion and was thrilled with how much the kids enjoyed it!

Our little boy sure is growing up! Brennan turned 18 months old yesterday. I decided I would post about some of the things he is currently doing.
Brennan is talking much more. I won't try to list out everything that he says like I did a few months ago, but his vocabulary has increased immensely. He still will not talk unless he wants to though. We try to get him to say things by saying, "Say ..." However, our efforts with that seem to be futile. The funniest thing that he has said recently was last week on the way home from church. Daddy said, "Brennan is a silly goose." Then Brennan laughed and said, "Daddy is a silly goose!" Then he laughed a lot (and so did Mommy and Daddy).
Brennan is loving being a big brother! He "helps" Branton all the time. Anytime he sees Branton's pacifer, he tries to cram it into Branton's mouth. :) He also loves to deliver Branton's burp cloths, blankets, socks, and anything else he sees of Branton's to him immediately. He likes to rock Branton when he is sitting in the swing, and he occasionally likes to hold Branton. He loves to kiss Branton and rub on his belly and head. His is a great big brother!
Brennan loves to help in general now. If I drop something he is quick to pick it up. He will bring things to me when I asked him to. He LOVES to throw trash in the trashcan (and occasionally other things). He also LOVES to put clothes (clean or dirty) in the laundry basket. He puts his sippy cup in the fridge. He also helps put his toys and books away. He is very happy to help with things and is very proud of himself when he does.
Brennan has some new favorite toys and games. He now loves his rocking horse. He can climb on and rock himself, and he does so multiple times a day. He loves to play with blocks. He has ABC blocks that he stacks on top of each other and then knocks down. He also has big legos that he loves to put together and take apart. He likes to draw with crayons on paper and with his marker on the Aqua Doodle. He enjoys push toys much more now then he did a few months ago. He especially likes to push his lawn mower that makes real lawn mowing sounds. He still likes to read books just as much as he always has and still likes playing with balls. He used to just carry balls around but now he likes to throw them. He especially likes his new football that Daddy got for him. He likes anything that Daddy gives him or does with him. One of his favorite activities is climbing on Daddy's back and riding around with Daddy down on all fours. He also loves to play peek-a-boo or hide-and-seek (I'm not really sure what you would call it). Brennan hides (with his hands, with something in front of his face, behind a door, behind the couch, etc.), we say, "Where is Brennan?", and he comes out, laughs, and says, "There he is!" He is so much fun!
Brennan is doing great with potty training. When he is at home and awake he goes in the toilet at least 95% of the time. He is getting much better about telling us when he needs to potty. He now takes himself into the bathroom and puts his seat on the toilet. He also goes almost everytime we set him on the toilet seat, even if it is just a little or very close to the last time he went. He has more trouble when we are away from home but is getting much better. In the last few days, he has gone at GGma's, Grandma's, church, and Chili's. This week we are going to try wearing underware instead of diapers when leaving the house, so hopefully he will continue to do as well as he has been. Staying dry while sleeping is still going to take quite a bit of work (or time). He occasionally has a dry diaper after a nap but normally wets even if he has gone right before he laid down. However, Mommy and Daddy are very happy with his progress!
I think this is the longest post that I have ever done. I just wanted to update everyone on our big boy. We love him so much and are so proud of him! I will post pictures later showing how he has changed during this first 18 months of his life.

First Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Last Thursday, Brennan and Mommy went to Cox Farms with other parents and kids from church. He had a great time seeing his friends, playing on the hay bales, riding the hayride, looking at the animals, and especially picking a pumpkin.

Potty Training Update

Brennan is really getting the idea of going potty in the toilet! He is still a long way from being completely trained, but he is well on his way. In the last 3 days, he has only had 2 accidents! However, please keep in mind that at this point in time, we are not counting the time when he is asleep as an accident. During naps he usually has a wet diaper; however, he has been dry a couple of times. And he is always wet in the morning when he gets up from his 12-13 hours of nighttime sleep. :) Everyday is different, but he seems to be getting consistently better. We are not at the point that I am willing to leave the house without him wearing a diaper though. Hopefully that will come soon!

Potty Training - Day 2

Today is the second day that Brennan has worked on going potty on the toilet. We decided yesterday that Brennan was only going to wear diapers at bedtime and naptime and had quite a day of learning. He became more aware all the time that he was peeing and would stop himself quicker each time that he started going on the floor. Last night he finally went in the toilet one time. We were all very excited. Today has gone better. He has gone potty on the toilet a total of 4 times! (And 5 times on the floor.) We are hoping he will go on the toilet again before bed to make it 50%. 1/2 the time isn't great for most things, but we feel like it is pretty good for only the second day of training. Hopefully tomorrow will go even better!

Brennan's Big Boy Room

We have moved Brennan downstairs to his big boy room. He is still sleeping in a crib but is not in the nursery anymore. We wanted to make this transition now so that he doesn't think it is the baby's fault that everything is changing. :) He is okay with his room but does not love it. He has slept down there 2 (full nights)of the last 4 nights. The first night he cried a little but then slept all night. The second night he would not stop crying, so we brought him upstairs and he went to sleep fine. The third night he fussed a little but slept great. And last night was a challenge. He cried (very briefly when he got in bed), then he "talked" for about 2 hours, then he called "Mommy," then he screamed until we got him. We brought him upstairs where he refused to sleep in the nursery as well. So we held him for about 30 minutes and then he finally went to sleep. I am unsure if last night dealt with his new room or just not being tired. He has taken all of his naps in his new room just fine, so hopefully tonight will go well again.

Last week Brennan wasn't feeling well at all. He was running a fever, had an ear infection, and had a sinus infection. He is much better now, but I think his ears may still be bothering him a little as he is still a little off balance.
Brennan has also been much more clingy recently and likes for Mommy and Daddy to hold him a lot. He still has played on his own some but wants to be held a lot.
Brennan had a donut for the first time a few days ago and absolutely loved it.
Something cute from last Sunday... Sunday night at church when we were singing a song, Mommy told Brennan to sing. He sang, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus." "Jesus Loves Me" is his favorite song. It was absolutely adorable!

Brennan went poop in the potty today! So it wasn't really any of his own doing... Mommy saw the look on his face and rushed him into the bathroom. He had already gone some in his diaper but finished in the potty. Then Mommy praised and praised Brennan. He knew he had done something very good!
We aren't really ready to start potty training yet, but we thought we would get the little potty out and start talking about it. We are hoping that he can get used to the idea of it to make it easier for when we actually start trying to train.
Brennan has always been fine with going around in a poopy diaper until Monday. On Monday, he pooped his diaper, took it off, and brought Mommy a clean diaper. Other than tracking poop on the floor from stepping in it (yuck!), Mommy was very happy with this because it was the first time he had seemed to care.

Brennan has had a few opportunities to go swimming this summer. First he went swimming at GGma's with Uncle Josh. Then he went swimming at Grandma and Grandpa's with Grandma, Mommy, Uncle Josh, and Rachel. And last week he went swimming twice at the YMCA with Aunt Krista, Uncle Justin, Grandma, Aunt Kayla, Aunt Michelle, Uncle Josh, Mommy, Kate, and Rachel. For now, Brennan definitely prefers shallow water that he can stand and sit in to splash.

14 Teeth

We went to Uncle Brett and Aunt Kayla's house to celebrate the 4th of July. Brennan had a great time eating and playing. He was even fine with all the loud noises (of the firecrackers). However, when it was dark and he was watching the fireworks, he was very afraid of the lights. We were unsure of if it was because of being tired, the noise with the lights, or just too many lights, but he definitely didn't like it.

New Things

This week Brennan has had several new accomplishments...
He said "Grandma" for the first time.
He started standing up on his own regularly (up to this point he has mainly only stood up from pulling up on something).
He also put two words together to tell Mommy what he wanted. - As I have stated before, Brennan loves to brush his teeth. A couple of days ago, he followed me into my bathroom (where we always brush his teeth), looked up at me, and said "brush teeth." I was so happy. We brushed his teeth, even though it was about 5:00 in the afternoon, an abnormal time for us to brush teeth.
Brennan also has started "reading" aloud as he looks at his books. I will post a video later of him walking around while "reading."

Grandpa was working on our sprinkler system yesterday, and Brennan really wanted to watch him and help him.

Brennan has quite a few words that he says now. He has surprised Mommy a couple of different times by naming something when he sees it that I didn't know he knew. He repeats words that I say all the time (not listed below) but will not say a word if you ask him to. The words listed are the ones that he says on his own. Here is the list:

Great example of using words to communicate what he wants: Brennan loves for Mommy and Daddy to sit on the floor and read books to him. Yesterday he took a book to Daddy, said "book", and then said, "sit." Daddy was trying to go out to work on the lawn but could not resist when Brennan was so clearly letting him know that he wanted him to sit down and read him a book.

Aunt Lindsay and Uncle Kyle had Judah Beatrix Rose on June 2 at 10:50 pm. She was 7.5 pounds and 19 inches long. Brennan, Daddy, and Mommy are all excited to get to meet her.

On Thursday we went to Ms. Laura and Lexi's house for a playdate. Then on Friday we went with Aunt Kayla and Rachel to visit Ms. Lyn and Kaylee. We love seeing our friends!

I have been terrible so far with posting videos of Brennan. This is a short video that shows some of his walking. If you listen closely, you can hear him say Cheez-It. He still crawls way more than he walks but walks more everyday!

Brennan loves to play with his Daddy. Tonight I took a few pictures of them playing together and a couple of videos. In the first video they are playing, and Brennan laughs in the middle because he sees himself in the reflection of the fireplace. Family Camp

This past weekend we went to Family Camp. Brennan had a great time with his family and friends. He and Kinley were able to ride horses for the first time. He was a little unsure at first but seemed to like it overall. We have lots of horse riding pictures and a few others, but our camera flash quit working part way through the weekend, so we did not get all the pictures that we were hoping for. However, I did steal a few pics from Brennan's cousins' blogs.

Yesterday I saw that Brennan has another tooth poking through. That is his twelth tooth! Eating should be getting easier and easier with so many chompers. The picture below shows the primary teeth. Brennan has his eight incisors (four bottom and four top)and all four first molars.

Yesterday when I was brushing Brennan's teeth, I noticed that he had gotten his 11th tooth. He absolutely loves to brush his teeth. If I ask him if he wants to brush his teeth, he will quickly go to the bathroom. He loves it!

Mommy and Daddy's Cruise - May 9-16

Brennan stayed with Gran and Grandad while Mommy and Daddy went on a cruise for a week. We drove to Aunt Jessica and Uncle Ryan's house on Friday night (after dropping Brennan off in OKC with Gran and Grandad). We spent the night with them and spent the next morning playing with Kinley and Jaxon. Then we drove to Galveston and boarded the Carnival Ecstasy. We were at sea on Saturday night, Sunday, and Monday. On Tuesday, we were in Montego Bay, Jamaica. On Wednesday, we were in Grand Cayman. Thursday and Friday we were at sea, and Saturday morning we got back to Galveston. It was a wonderful trip!

Brennan spent all of last week with Gran and Grandad while Mommy and Daddy went on a cruise. He stayed from Friday night until the next Saturday night. He was able to spend lots of time with Gran, Grandad, and other family and friends. He had a wonderful time! Thank you so much for keeping him for us! We will post pictures later of our trip.

More Steps

Yesterday Brennan took 19 steps two separate times. He is consistently taking 10 or more steps at a time. Many times he sits down instead of falling too. Crawling is still WAY faster, but he is getting much better at learning to walk!

Today Brennan had his one year check-up. He is 29 inches long (25%) and 19 lbs 10 oz (20%). He is a healthy little boy!

Yesterday after church, we celebrated Brennan's first birthday with our families. GGpa, GGma, Grandad, Gran, Grandpa Oakley, Grandma Oakley, Uncle Kyle, Aunt Lindsay, Uncle Justin, Aunt Krista, Kate, Uncle Brett, Aunt Kayla, Rachel, Aunt Michelle, Uncle Josh, Daddy, and Mommy were all here to help Brennan celebrate. (Uncle Ryan, Aunt Jessica, Kinley, and Jaxon were here last week, and Kinley called yesterday to say Happy Birthday! Granny and Grandpa Roy were out of town but were able to spend time with Brennan on Easter.) Brennan had a wonderful time. He loved his birthday hat, all his new presents, and being the center of attention! He was still a little unsure about eating the cake, but he definitely enjoyed all of the time with his loving family!

Today is Brennan's first birthday! On Tuesday, we had first birthday pictures taken. He loved smiling for the camera but was very unsure about what to do with the cake. Today after church we are having a birthday party with our families. Hopefully, Brennan will be a little more interested in his cake then.

Brennan celebrated his first Easter yesterday. The Easter bunny brought him a basket to our house. Then we went to Great Granny and Grandpa Roy's for lunch an Easter egg hunt. Brennan had a lot of fun figuring things out. When he first picked up an egg he said "ball".

On Thursday, 4 moms, 1 aunt, and 1 ggma took 5 babies to get their pictures taken together. The photographer was wonderful! She captured several adorable pictures which is quite a challenge with 5 kids under 18 months. We were quite impressed!
