Daddy feeds Brennan

Daddy has been coming up to the hospital during his lunch time this week. Today he was able to feed Brennan lunch.

Update

Mommy stayed at the hospital last night and is going to continue staying there. The hospital has nursing mothers' rooms for moms with babies in the NICU that want to stay at the hospital to be with their babies for more of the feedings. It is a blessing for us because it lets Mommy stay close and it is free of charge. From 6:30 last night until 6:30 this morning (5 feedings), Brennan took all of his milk. We were very happy. However, at 9:30, 12:30, and 3:30 today, he would only take about half. When he doesn't take all of it, the nurse has to give him the rest through the feeding tube. It makes Mommy sad, but it is much better than having to have the IV. The nurses say that he is just acting his age and that it takes a while for babies born at 35 weeks to build the endurance to take all their feedings. He is digesting the food well, just not wanting to eat all of it. We are happy to say that he is very healthy; he just needs more time to adjust and be able to eat. Please pray that he will eat and that Mommy and Daddy will have a lot of patience as we eagerly wait for him to get to come home.

Eating

Brennan has not been consistently taking his 48 mL of milk at his feedings. The nurses say that it is completely normal for babies his age, but it is still very upsetting for Mommy and Daddy. He has to take the 48 mL at every feeding for 48 hours before we can talk about bringing him home. Beginning tonight, Mommy is going to stay at the hospital in a mother's room. They have rooms for nursing moms who have babies in the NICU who want to stay at the hospital all the time. This will allow Mommy to be there for 7 of the 8 feedings per day; the NICU is closed during one of the feeding times. We are also going to start bottle feeding for every other feeding. The nurses say that will probably help him to not be so tired when it is time to eat. We will let you know how it goes. Thank you for your prayers!

Grandma Oakley holds Brennan

Grandma Oakley got to hold Brennan for the first time today. Up until now, the hospital has only allowed Mommy and Daddy to hold him.

Brennan is up to the 48 mL that he needs to eat; however, he is not consistently eating it. He has to eat 48 mL at every feeding for 48 hours, and then Mommy and Daddy will stay at the hospital with him over night, and then he will get to come home.

Bath Time

Mommy gave Brennan a bath for the first time tonight because he decided to pee all over her and himself while eating. Aren't boys fun?!

Diapers

Mommy and Daddy have now both changed Brennan's diapers. Isn't Daddy's face great?
